These two burnt envelopes were recovered from the crash of a National Air Transport plane flying on Contract Air Mail route CAM 17 from Chicago to New York on 26th Apr 1930.  The plane suffered engine failure so the pilot bailed out at 4000ft leaving the plane to crash.  About half of the mail aboard the plane was salvaged but in poor condition.  Each item was marked with the two-line cachet in violet shown here.
